Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen green peas

  • 6-7 cups water (adjust water per your desired consistency)

  • 5-6 medium sized white potatoes

  • 1 large onion

  • 2 large tomatoes

  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 tbsp grated ginger

  • 1/2 cup tomato puree

  • 3-4 green chilies (or adjust per your liking)

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp grated turmeric root or turmeric powder

  • 1.5 tsp Chana masala (I use MDH brand)

  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro

  • salt per your taste

  • 1 tbsp chopped chives to add on top (optional)

Directions

  • To speed up the cooking process of this dish – chop potatoes in cubes & boil them separately on stovetop till soft (about 90% cooked). Drain water and keep aside.
  • Water sauté onions till soft on low heat. Once soft, add tomatoes, ginger, garlic, chilies and cook till tomatoes get soft.
  • Once tomatoes soften, add rest of the spices, tomato puree and peas. Add water, cover the lid and let peas cook till they are half way done. Remove lid, add your cooked potatoes and let it simmer for few minutes till peas are fully cooked. Mash few cubes of potatoes to make gravy thicker. Once cooked add chopped cilantro and mix. Serve on top of rice with a squeeze of lemon juice, chives and enjoy!
